However, if you’d rather do it on your own. Here are the steps that it takes!

How To Start A Blog

Step #1. Get A Domain Name

Your domain name is essentially the address for your website. For example, my domain name is smartaffiliatehub.com. That’s what people type in the search bar to reach my website directly.

Note: Don’t Buy A Domain Name Just Yet.

When coming up with a domain name, you should consider making it as close to your brand as possible. For example, if your brand is called, Excellent Names, ideally, you’ll want the domain name excellentnames.com.

Do you really need to have a .com domain? Not really, if the domain name with the .com extension is not available. You can look into other variations of the domain name or choose a different extension.

Step #2. Get Web Hosting

You can’t go swimming without water and you can’t have a website that people can visit without web hosting. It’s what keeps your website on the internet and accessible to others.

Some web hosting service providers will include a free domain name if you decide to use their service. To make things easier, HostGator has just released their very own website builder.

Before buying a website hosting service, make sure you double check to see which one fits you best. You don’t want to underspend or overspend on web hosting. Click here to learn everything about web hosting.

Step #3. Website Design

If you decide to use Hostgator’s website builder, you can create a beautifully designed website even if you don’t have any experience with coding. However, I don’t expect everyone to choose Hostgator’s website builder.

There are many premium themes that you can purchase on the internet. To this very day, I still recommend the Genesis Framework. Here’s a Genesis Authority Pro Theme review that covers what I know about this framework.

If you want to be more original, you can also look into paying a professional to design your website for you. But keep in mind, this is going to be the most expensive route.

Step #4. Sales Funnel/Landing Page Creation Software

A landing page is designed to let your visitors know exactly what to expect and what to do. For example, do you want your visitors to buy a product? convert into a lead? or just read your blog content?

ClickFunnels is one of the most popular sales funnel/landing page creation software. It is designed to help nurture your visitors into potential buyers.

Blogging Fundamentals Needed To Make A Killer Living

#1. You Need A Strategy

What are your goals for blogging? Is it to build an audience or make money? If there’s something that you want to achieve, you’ll want to create a strategy.

That’s what makes blogging different than writing a journal. If you want to achieve your goals, you’ll need a strategy.

Figure out what your goals for blogging is and brainstorm ideas on how to achieve it. By doing so, you’ll know who you’re trying to write for, what you’ll want to write about, etc.

Blogging is easy, but becoming a successful blogger who can replace his or her full-time income is tough. That’s why you want to plan it out and have effective strategies in place. Just make sure your goals are realistic. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

#2. Choose The Right Platform

There are different platforms on the market. There’s really no right or wrong answer as to which one is preferred. According to CodeInWP, around 19,500,000 websites on the entire internet uses WordPress.

Personally, I prefer to use WordPress and that’s exactly what kind of website Smart Affiliate Hub is. With WordPress, you can customize your website with various themes and plugins.

#3. Use Images Whenever It Makes Sense

A blog post with all text is hard to consume and with how successful Social Media has become. Your readers will expect some sort of image or infographics paired with your text content.

Not all images are free, some require a form of payment to use. But, you can find free images for blogging through various websites. If you can make your own pictures, that’s even better.

For example, whenever I travel, I would take pictures and upload them on my blog. Obviously, I could’ve found similar images on the internet to use, but original images tend to perform better than the ones you find on the web.

#4. Batch Your Work

Sometimes life gets in the way and you’ll find it impossible to blog. This happens to everyone including myself. That’s why I recommend batching your work and have it distributed automatically using WordPress Time Stamp (an excellent solution to not having time for your blog).

Consistency is the key to online success. So if you have a blogging schedule (once a day, twice a week, etc), you’ll want to stick with it. You don’t want to publish once a week and all of a sudden go ghost mode for a month.

Your readers will get confused and will likely not return to your blog. It’s easier to get readers to come back when they have an idea of when you’ll be releasing new content.

I recommend using an editorial calendar plugin to help you plan out your month if you plan to batch your work for the entire month. This will keep you organized and help you gauge how much of a buffer you have.

#5. Be A Marketer

Blogging is just a part of making money online. If you don’t know how to market your content, you won’t be able to reach as many people as needed to be successful.

After all, there are approximately 1.94 billion websites on the internet as of December 2018. How can you attract people to visit your blog when you’re merely a needle in a haystack?

That’s where marketing comes in handy. Here are some marketing tips to get more customers through blogging! Also, regularly check your Google Analytics to track where you’re getting traffic from.

This will tell you what is working and what is not working.

In Conclusion

As you can see, it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to start a blog. But if you want to create a blog that makes a killer living, you’ll need to focus on the fundamentals.

Be prepared to spend countless hours working on content production, marketing, etc.

The good news is, once your blog becomes successful, you’ll reap great rewards that you just can’t get from a traditional job. To keep it simple, the freedom of time, money, and location is part of living the dot com lifestyle.

Hopefully, this was helpful! If you have questions or need help with anything. Please let me know and I will try my best to help you out!
