Affiliate marketing a business model that acts as a bridge. As an affiliate marketer, your goal is to connect customers to sellers by providing helpful information.

Basically, if I am able to bring a buying customer to a seller, I’ll get a small commission (varies depending on their pay structure).

There are 3 types of affiliate programs that you should familiarize yourself with:

• Low Ticket Products: Inexpensive products that carry a small commission and usually pays you once per sale. Something like an eBook would be considered a low ticket product.
• High Ticket Products: Expensive products usually cost around $1,000.00 or more.

Regardless of whichever program you choose, you won’t have to come out of pocket to pre-stock these items because you are not selling them directly.

You are simply referring people to the products through paid advertisements or content marketing. I highly recommend that you integrate them all into your product mix.

2 Common Methods To Drive Traffic

The first one that I’d like to discuss is paid advertisements, you’ll have to invest money to get your campaigns in front of customers.

This is the quickest way to drive traffic to an offer or to your website. However, once you’re out of money, your traffic stops as well.

As long as you use the internet, you’ve probably seen these ads before (for example Google Ads).

Personally, I recommend content marketing. It’s nowhere near as fast as paid advertisements, but it doesn’t cost you any money to generate traffic.

This is a great long-term approach because content stays on the internet for as long as it exists.

That’s why I recommend starting a blog as a beginner. Not only can you build a relationship with your readers, but you can also create blog posts that can drive traffic over and over again.

For example, I wrote an article about an online sales funnels creation software called ClickFunnels. To this very day, it is still generating passive income because it doesn’t require additional input from me.

Here’s an example of how affiliate marketing works:

Let’s say you have a website about toys. Simply find a company that offers an affiliate program.

When you sign up for their affiliate program, they will provide you with an affiliate link (a unique address that tells them that you referred the customer).

Simply write an article and paste the affiliate link into your content.

One of the easiest ways to earn a commission is by writing a product review and adding your affiliate link to a buy now button.

That way if your reader is interested in buying, they will click on the button to get to the product page.

Now if someone clicks on your link and buys the product, you will earn a commission! There’s no need to actively sell anything on your own because your website will do it for you 24/7.

Email marketing is also another way to sell affiliate products. Besides having affiliate links in your content, you can also send affiliate offers to your subscribers.

Nothing Happens Until You Have Traffic

The truth to the matter is, having links on your website is not enough. It’s like a restaurant with a chef, a menu, a table, and food. But there are no customers.

One of the biggest mistakes affiliate marketers make in the beginning is spamming their website with affiliate offers before building an audience.

If you spam your website with affiliate offers, it will actually work against you. Nobody will trust a website with flashy banners all over the place. Or writing with a sell, sell, sell attitude.

At the end of the day, you need to make money, but in order to be successful in affiliate marketing, you must provide value and a solution.

Let’s say someone is trying to buy a car with 7 seats. You’ll want to write about available cars to compare, as well as options, pricing, and which one you recommend.

Build Up A Customer Base

Do you remember the last time you met a great person, but failed to get their contact information? Well, I’m sure this has happened to everyone.

The same applies to make money online or affiliate marketing. You can’t control what someone will do after visiting your website.

Chances are, they will never come back if they didn’t find your website very helpful. Even if they did, it’s not unusual that they would forget about your website.

One of the best-proven ways to get people to return to your website is through email marketing.

With email marketing, you can reach out whenever you feel is necessary (can be automated) to your subscribers (they will have to opt-in to receive emails from you).

There’s a reason why many companies offer a referral or affiliate program. They want more customers without spending thousands of dollars on paid advertisements.

Since affiliate programs don’t have to pay you unless you make a sale, it is a win/win situation for both the seller as well as the affiliate marketer.

Some companies operate their own affiliate program whereas some would join an affiliate network to help manage their affiliate program.

One of the common affiliate programs is called Amazon Associate. There you can find millions of products in one location. Regardless of your niche, you can usually find an appropriate product to promote.

The commission percentage per sale will vary from program to program. Amazon is one of the lowest-paying affiliate programs out there, but they are very reputable, so you can earn a pretty penny if you can sell in mass volume.

Note: You should definitely start a blog because most affiliate programs won’t consider you unless you have a website or a YouTube channel.

It’s not unreasonable to wonder how much money you can make. Unfortunately, affiliate marketing is not comparable to a regular job. When you first apply for a job, you’ll get an hourly wage or a salary.

However, if someone guarantees that you can make X amount of money online, it is almost always a scam.

The reason why is because affiliate marketing is like running a regular business. Nobody can predict your earnings. That’s why I don’t consider my earnings a paycheck.

Note: A paycheck mentality will lead to quitting mentality when it comes to affiliate marketing.

With that being said, you can make 4, 5, or even 6 figures monthly, but you can also make nothing if you don’t have a full understanding of how affiliate marketing works.

The results are dependent on how much time and effort you are willing to invest in your affiliate marketing business.
