About: What is SEMrush? It is a complete SEO tool that allows you to conduct keyword research, spy on your competition, audit your blog, look for backlinking opportunities, and more.
Price: $99.95/month for Pro. $199.95/month for Guru. $399.95/month for Business.
Pros: One of the most well-known SEO toolkit on the internet. It comes with everything you need to stay ahead of your competition.
Cons: Not exactly affordable for most people.
Verdict: If you want to stay ahead of your competition, SEMrush is a great tool to ensure that. It’s not cheap, but it’s certainly worth the investment.

SEMrush is a popular SEO toolkit. It provides you with a ton of tools to monitor your own or your competitor’s website. It also has one of the most thorough analytic tools in the market.

SEMrush just happens to be one of the many tools that I use to operate Smart Affiliate Hub. With that said, I want to fully disclose that I am an affiliate for SEMrush.

What Is SEMrush?
In short, SEMrush is an all-in-one tool for online businesses that want to improve online visibility and marketing insights. It comes with tools and reports for SEO, PPC, Keyword Research, Content Marketing, Campaign Management, Social Media Marketing, Competitive Research, Banklink Audit, Website Audit, and much more.
Optimizing your website can be quite challenging for most people. In fact, SEO can be very difficult to understand. SEMrush makes it very easy for those who have little to no experience in website optimization.
With SEMrush, you can also identify what is currently trending in your niche industry as well as spy on your competition through keywords to see what is working for them.
Just imagine having a virtual assistant telling you what to do to increase traffic to your website.
Why You Should Use SEMrush
Whether you’re a new startup company or an established online business. You can certainly benefit from using SEMrush. In fact, many major companies like PayPal, Forbes, Philips, etc use SEMrush.
With over 20 tools and reports, I am going to try and go over the key features and functions that you will be using as an SEO Professional, content marketer, social media manager, or beginner. Without further ado, let’s get started with this SEMrush Review for 2020 and why it is a must-have SEO toolkit.
What SEMrush Offers
KEYWORD RESEARCH
Ranking for the right keywords is very important. It will help you target the right type of audience for your business.
Not only does it help you identify new keywords to rank for, but it will also display keywords that you are already ranking for.
What I really like about SEMrush is the ability to research keywords as well as content ideas.
KEYWORD MAGIC TOOL
It contains over two million keywords in its database. This will allow you to find tons of new keywords for your business.
To use this tool, simply type in any keyword that you’re thinking about and it will populate a list of long-tail keywords for you.
You’ll also get the following data:
#1. Find and use long-tail keywords.
#2. Average monthly search volume.
#3. A graph displaying the trend.
#4. How difficult it is to rank for the specific keywords.
#5. Cost per click if I decide to use PPC advertisements.
#6. Competition when using Google Ads.
#7. Results in the search engine results page.
On the left-hand side, you’ll also find keywords associated with “Wealthy Affiliate.”
Keyword Analyzer
The keyword analyzer allows you to explore up to 1,000 selected keywords.
After selecting your keywords, you can segment your keywords, send them to other tools such as position tracking, as well as exporting the data to a spreadsheet.
POSITION TRACKING
Organic Research Tool
The organic research tool allows you to find and learn all about the keywords that you currently rank for as well as your competitors. If you click on the overview tab, you’ll get a graphic that shows your keyword growth over time.
Now if you click on the position tab, you will find a list of your organic search positions.
As you can see from the image above, SEMrush has lots of information on the keywords that are bringing traffic to your website. By default, but can be changed. The SEMrush organic search position list will show the highest monthly search volume first.
DOMAIN OVERVIEW TOOL
After reviewing my own website, I had no idea that I was ranking for certain keywords.
To get more information about your domain, simply navigate to domain overview and enter your root domain. If you click on the overview tab, you’ll get a graphic that shows your keyword growth over time.
Keep in mind, in the SEMrush’s domain overview, the monthly traffic count does not accurately reflect your website’s total monthly traffic.
It’s based on organic and paid search traffic from the keywords in the SEMrush database. Therefore, it’s only an estimation of your traffic count.
However, I’m amazed by the amount of information provided to you through their domain overview such as:
#1. The amount of organic traffic that your website is getting.
#2. The amount of paid traffic your website is getting.
#3. The top organic keywords that are bringing traffic to your website.
#4. A graph showing the positions of your keywords.
#5. The number of backlinks from referring domains
#6. Visual representations of your organic and paid keywords.
#7. Your top competitors as well as position mapping based on the number of keywords and organic search traffic.
#8. A chart showing the top paid keywords bringing traffic to your website.
#9. A graph showing the paid position of keywords that you target through PPC.
#10. A chart that shows your top competitors in PPC as well as position mapping.
#11. Some samples of your PPC advertisements.
#12. Backlinks that refer to your website including top anchor as well as domain.
#13. A graph showing traffic organic traffic and paid traffic.
#14. Showcasing the most popular indexed pages on your website that are backlinked by other domains.
You can learn more about each data by simply clicking on the metric that interest you for the full report.
KEYWORD GAP TOOL
BACKLINK ANALYTICS TOOL
They use backlinks to measure how other people feel about the website/post/page.
It actually makes sense…
You probably won’t link to a page if you don’t find any value in it.
SEMrush’s backlink analytics tool reviews and displays the total backlinks to your website (as well as your competitors).
SEMrush’s Backlink analytics will also show the following:
- Types of backlinks (text, image, form, frame).
- Categories and referring domains.
- Link attributes.
- TLD distributions (.com,.gov,.edu,.net,etc).
- Countries that you are getting backlinks from.
- Top anchors and top anchor terms.
Through the keyword gap tool, you can compare up to 5 websites at a time. A good place to start is to compare your websites, top competitors.
The tool will display a list of keywords that you and your competitors have in common. There you will find the rankings for both you and your competitors.
The data will also include information such as search volume, cost per click, competition for Google Ads as well as how difficult it is to rank for the displayed keywords.
SITE AUDIT TOOL
Ouch… looks like I have a lot to fix…
Even though it shows that my site health is at 85 percent (which is pretty good). I still have a lot of room for improvement.
As you can see, according to SEMrush’s audit tool, the top 10% of websites have site health of 92%. That’s where I want to be eventually improve.
BACKLINK AUDIT TOOL
Nothing is worse than having backlinks from untrusted sources. By not disavowing unwanted backlinks, it can potentially affect your rankings/reputation. SEMrush’s backlink audit tool allows you to review backlinks and disavow them.
Once you’ve selected the websites with a toxic score, you can disavow them and download the text file needed for Google’s disavow tool.
How Much Is SEMRush?
First, I want to mention that SEMrush is not cheap. SEMrush offers 3 different plans. You can choose to pay annually or monthly. For annual users, you will receive additional savings.

SEMrush Annual Guru Plan: $1,999.44 (normally $2399.40)
SEMrush Annual Business Plan: $3,999.36 (normally $4,799.40)
Although the price is not on the cheap side, you can try it out for the duration of the free trial to see if this tool is for you!

In Conclusion
In my opinion, after trying Semrush for a few hours. I came up with the conclusion that SEMrush is an amazing tool for online businesses.
I have used many other keyword research tools before, but none of them even come close to SEMrush in terms of information and metrics.
But, for new beginners, I can definitely see a problem with too much information. But that can be corrected over time.
The good news is, SEMrush is an established company with lots of great information to help its users. So there shouldn’t be any problems with using SEMrush as long as you ask for help.
With that being said, I highly recommend SEMrush as the SEO toolkit for optimizing your website.
