Did You Know An Evergreen Content And Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Work Hand In Hand?

How the search engine works:

  • Search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, uses bots known as spiders to crawl millions of web pages for keywords that is most relevant to their search results. That’s why you usually don’t have to search beyond the first page to find what you’re looking for.

Content that is not evergreen:

  • If you write an article about how many people use the internet in 2020. The search engines will index that page according to the year 2020. — If you search for how many people use the internet (more general), your article on how many people use the internet in 2020 (more specific) will not likely appear on the top search results.
  • News Articles are typically everbrown (a term that I just made up). That’s because a news article becomes irrelevant relatively fast.
  • Latest Fashion, Computer, Software, etc. The reason why these are everbrown as well is that of the ever changing nature of these products.

The purpose of an evergreen content:

The purpose of an evergreen content is to not have that limitation. It contains keywords that the search engines are likely to rank on the top pages no matter how old the article is.

Since evergreen content really has no expiration date and usually uses keywords that can be searched over and over again, then depending on the query, search engines are more likely to pull up a particular piece of evergreen content over and over again. — For example, making money online rather than making money online in 2020.

Do you want to write evergreen content? I’ve consolidated a list of things you can do to ensure that your content stays evergreen.

Write Contents That You Can Update

Many things change over time. Heck search engines are evolving as time goes by, so in order for your articles to keep up with the changes; updates are required.

Personally, I recommend writing How-To articles, because no matter what happens. I can always add, remove, change, and/or update it. The reason why most content you find on the internet is no longer relevant is that the author didn’t keep it up-to-date.

The downside for keeping your content up-to-date is the extra work, but you’re writing content to reach the top pages of search engines anyway right?— You have the content and all you have to do is add, remove, change, and/or update it.

For your trouble, Google and other search engines will reward you handsomely by giving you higher rankings! In the end, Google ensures their visitors receive top-notch search results and you get the traffic.— It’s a win/win situation!

Write Quality Content That Entice People To Share It

Out of sight, out of mind….

Social Media is one of the most important aspects of our life… at least in our current era. Since MySpace, social media has expanded and it’s become more popular now than ever. There are so many options, but in the end. They are all designed for you to share your life, experience, and even products!

You can introduce your content and have it reach lots of people by writing quality content that entice people to share. When people share your articles, it creates a chain of potential readers.

Example: If I promote your content on my Instagram, it would reach people on my network that you wouldn’t have reached on your own.

Tip: Besides writing quality content that entice people to share, you also want to make it easy to be shared. That’s where social media buttons come into play.

If you are using WordPress, there are certain themes that come with social share options included. However, if you don’t have that with your theme, you can always install a plugin through your WordPress admin cp.

Make Sure Your Content Is Easy To Find

Overtime as you further develop your website and continue your content creation. It’s common that your older blogs becomes hard to find or should I say buried under the rubble of other blogs.

Remember what I said about out of sight, out of mind?

You want to create menus or sub menus to showcase these older blogs. This will allow future visitors to easily access and maybe even leave a comment on it.— Comments are not useless. If your article contains a good amount of comments, it lets Google know that your article is engaging.

Is this really that important? You probably think this part is kind of useless because people can find it if it’s a top search result from the search engines. Well, what if it’s not a top search result?

I don’t like to leave money on the table… maybe you were searching for something specific, but something else catches your attention. This will give me more opportunity to build value and credibility.
