Affiliate Marketing is a highly desired online money-making method because you don’t have to physically own the product nor do you have to deal with shipping and handling.
Even though affiliate marketing doesn’t require years of education due to its simplicity. Yet, why do so many people fail in affiliate marketing?
In this short article, I am going to talk about why I enjoy doing affiliate marketing, the mentality it requires, and answer the question, “why do so many fail in affiliate marketing?“
Why I Enjoy Affiliate Marketing
I’m the type of person who loves a challenge. I still remember how excited I was on my first day of learning how to find a niche, building a website, and content writing.
Even though it sounded like it was going to be easy money but I knew deep down that it actually requires hard work to succeed. Although it was challenging at first, I never thought about quitting, but I wasn’t surprised if many people would.
The purpose of this article is to help motivate new upcoming affiliate marketers such as yourself. I’m going to provide you with tips, so you won’t feel discouraged when you don’t see an immediate return in terms of money.
Why Does It Take So Long To Make Money With Affiliate Marketing?
Let’s put it this way, you have a brand new website and nobody knows you. Google and other search engines wouldn’t place you on their top search results yet until they’ve deemed your content informative.
People use search engines to find relevant articles. Imagine if you went to Google to find information on how to make money online and you end up finding new websites with no information through their search results page.
Once or twice you might let it slide, but it’s bad for business long-term. Google prides itself on high quality and relevant articles when you search through its index.
If you want to get ranked on the search engines, you need to work for it like everyone else.
Reasons Why So Many People Fail In Affiliate Marketing
Reason #1 The Get Rich Quick Mentality
I seriously believe this is why most people fail because this mentality is very discouraging especially when you just started an affiliate marketing business.
People with this kind of mentality are expecting someone to just land on their website and make a purchase.
First of all, if they wanted to just make a purchase, they would’ve simply gone directly to the retailer! I honestly wouldn’t trust myself with links from an untrusted source.
The truth is, I don’t blame those who want to make money fast because many people including myself would love to make money with no effort at all. But let’s be realistic.
There are no shortcuts to success:
I wish there was a shortcut to achieving a Ph.D. without having to go to school at all, but that’s impossible. And I also wish that I could have a body like The Rock Dwayne Johnson without having to workout.
The same applies when it comes to making money, we are all looking for the easy way out, but unfortunately, that is not how it works in real life.
When your mentality is to search for the easy way out. You are much more vulnerable to getting scammed because scammers feed on your greed and your desire to succeed immediately with no effort.
Most scammers would advertise themselves as someone who can get you rich in a very short period and would offer you a package deal, but the deal doesn’t last forever.
What they’re doing is that they are targeting your get-rich-quick mentality and trying to sell you with a sense of urgency.
Reason #2 Choosing a bad niche
This happens to everybody and personally, it is a learning phase. The problem is, not many people would try again after failing for the first time.
My recommendation is choosing a niche that you have a passion for because you will be writing about this niche for as long as you want to run your online business.
Tip: Here are Five Niche Markets That Will Always Make Money.
If you choose a bad niche, you will have a hard time writing high-quality content for your viewers. This is a huge issue because if you can’t connect and build credibility through content with your viewers, you wouldn’t have viewers.
Remember, Content is King: You are not the store! You don’t sell anything on your website as an affiliate marketer. You are promoting a product and offering information to help your viewers make an informative decision.
In other words, you are their problem-solver, so your goal is to help your viewers and not to sell them anything.
Reason #3 Giving Up After Getting Scammed
I wondered why he said that because the internet is so much fun with so many games to play!
Scammers will always exist as long as their products and people. The only thing I can suggest is to think twice before you consider making a purchase of a service or product.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. – You can never go wrong with this saying!
When in doubt, search the internet for answers! It is quite easy to tell if a website is a scam or get-rich-quick scheme because usually there are testimonials from people who were scammed by them in the past.
You should easily find articles by simply typing their website address following with the word scam.
Example: www.domainnamehere.com scam?

Reason #4 Being Indecisive And Constantly Changing Your Methods
This is quite common and it applies to everyone! We are always looking for the latest and newest such as an iPhone. As soon as a new iPhone is released, everyone wants to get a hold of one.
This can be an issue when it comes to affiliate marketing because it takes time and if you are bouncing around from method to method, it becomes harder and harder to succeed.
Don’t overwhelm yourself, spread yourself too thin, and focus on one thing at a time.
Reason #5 Not Having A Mentor
Affiliate marketing is very competitive, so you need all the help that you can get. This is very important for new affiliate marketers because you are going up against veterans who are well-established and knows every trick in the book.
Experienced affiliate marketers know how to market themselves because they’ve been doing this far longer than you have.
It’s like asking a brand new marine with no combat experience to go up against a veteran who has gone through countless battles. The brand new marine would likely lose of course.
There are programs out there that offer training and guidance, but most would require you to actually spend money to get started. It makes it hard for some of us to commit because we don’t have a lot of disposable income.
This is why I recommend checking out Wealthy Affiliate because they offer FREE starter membership without trial. Which means you can stay as a free member for as long as you like.
Even as a free member, you will have access to their certification courses to teach you the ways of online business and much more!
I hope this was helpful! Also, I’ve recently released my course on how to start a blog for affiliate marketing. It’s designed to help you get started step-by-step.
