One of my readers had a question regarding Google Page Rank and that’s why I want to take this time to cover Google Page Rank to all of my readers.
From my understanding, Google Page Rank otherwise known as “PR” was one of the biggest indicators of your website’s authority. It meant a lot to search engine optimization, so many bloggers focused heavily on getting higher page rank.
Why was Google Page Rank important? — It determined how well your website would rank on search engines such as Google.
To get a better understanding of how it works, the metric for page rank is based on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest). The closer your page rank is to 10, the better.
Google Page Rank Doesn’t Matter As Much Anymore
Let’s face it, Google is not perfect and they’ve made mistakes in the past and that’s why we have changes to the search engine algorithm. Page rank just happened to be one of those things that were open to abuse using what we call, “Black Hats.”
However, I do notice some SEO tools will still display a page ranking for your website. However, you’re better of taking it with a light grain of salt because Google themselves no longer display a page rank anymore.
There Are Still Free Page Rank Checkers Available
I just did a search on Google and found that there are still websites out there offering to check your page ranks for free. If you check your page rank with any of these free websites, you will more than likely receive a rank of 0 out of 10. If you do receive a higher number, don’t let it excite you.
I decided to do an experiment and tested on one of the most populated websites in the world; YouTube. As to be expected, the page rank displayed is 0/10.

I also noticed some websites such as Google themselves will still display a page rank, but I doubt they will continue to update it.
How Was Page Rank Abused?
I stated earlier that Google is not perfect and it’s absolutely true. They have gotten better at what they do over the years though and will likely continue to improve as time goes.
Page rank was introduced and it was measured by the number of links that redirect back to you. This is also known as backlinking and Google receives the benefits if I write an article about Google that includes a link back to Google. — This is why Google has the highest page rank.
At the time, it doesn’t matter if your website was good or not because as long as you have backlinks, your website is likely to rank well.
This opened the doors to abuse…
People were buying links from SEO services and I’m not surprised if they still exist today…
This discouraged people from writing high-quality content because it didn’t matter. Someone can just come in, buy a bunch of low-quality backlinks and *bam* you’ve been outranked.
Fortunately, for honest website owners like myself, this mayhem didn’t last long. Google has made it clear by taking the necessary actions, quality content and quality websites will always reign supreme.
Don’t Be Misinformed By Your Coach or Mentor

If you are new to making money online, you are likely to come across a mentor or a coach who dwells on SEO methods from the old days. More or less they are in denial and in the end… it leads them nowhere.
Fortunately for me, I had a great coach… or should I say community who helped me every step of the way, so I didn’t make as many mistakes as I would have if I had a horrible coach.
Instead of Focusing On Page Rank, You Should Focus on Authority
When it comes to the quality of a website, it is determined by the overall: Content, comments, social media likes and shares, bounce rates, keyword usage, etc. There isn’t much use of backlinks anymore except for leading more potential visitors to your website.
Here are a few factors that will impact your website authority:
- Domain age: The older your domain, the more likely you will be trusted. This doesn’t count for people who purchase domains and just let it sit there. Your goal is to not only have an old domain name, but also enough content in it, so by the time you hit the 6 months mark. Most of your articles should be indexed by now and you should slowly see a rise in traffic. This will lead to the next factor…
- High-quality content: What’s the point of ranking high and gaining traffic without high-quality content to build a readership?
- Meta Tags: This describes your page and helps Google determine the relevancy of your content to help rank you on their index. You can learn more about it by clicking here.
- Comments: Most people neglect this and I’m guilty for this sometimes… comments add to the content because keywords within content also help rank your page. It also promotes engagement and search engine giants like Google will reward you handsomely for it.
- The quantity of Content: Besides writing quality content, you should also try to provide as many as you can without reducing the quality. This shows search engines that you are not only here or the moment and will continue to provide high-quality content now and the coming future.
My Final Thoughts
As you can see, ranking your website is not a walk in the park and it is determined by many factors. If you continue to provide helpful and high-quality content to your readers, you will eventually get rewarded by Google with lots of organic traffic.
You see, Google releases an update of their algorithm to combat black hat users. Guess what? I don’t really care if they update their algorithm because I wouldn’t be affected.
My two cents is, focus on the quality and consistency of your content. People will naturally share and like content that they think is helpful. Do yourself a favor and do it right the first time, so you don’t have to go back and fix it.
