What’s more important? Getting more website traffic or focus on getting quality traffic? For new internet marketers, they are told that in order to succeed, you must get traffic and lots of them.
This statement is true to a certain extent. You do need lots of traffic in order to succeed as an internet marketer. However, there are more important variables to keep in mind.
So today, I will go over why quality is more important than quantity for website traffic. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Why Having Only Quantity Is Not Going To Work
Different websites generate different quantities of traffic. Just because one generates more traffic doesn’t necessarily mean they make more money.
In today’s world, you can buy traffic from different sources.
Now I’m not going to criticize paid traffic such as Google Ads, Bing Ads, or Facebook Ads because they are all legitimate sources but can be quite expensive over time.
However, there are websites claiming to help you generate massive numbers of traffic for a small flat fee. Those are the ones that you need to avoid.
First of all, you don’t know where the traffic is actually coming from. Second of all, they are most likely robots designed to make it appear as if you are getting visits.
Note: If you are running Google Adsense on your website, you might get banned from their services for using these illegitimate services to generate impressions.
So even though you are getting more visitors from these illegitimate services, the chances of you actually making a sale are slim to none.
Why You Should Focus More On Quality Traffic
If you are an e-commerce website or an affiliate marketing website. You can have a massive amount of visitors on a regular basis, but it wouldn’t earn you a paycheck if the visitors are NOT interested in your promotions and products.
Common mistakes made by amateurs are paid advertisements that aren’t targeted. Similar to paid traffic, they might generate more visitors, but very few will actually make a sale.
An Example:
First of all, your advertisements should target a specific group.
Let’s say you are promoting basketball shoes and you do an advertisement for shoes in general.
Sure, you will receive a lot more traffic, but how many of these visitors are interested in basketball shoes specifically?
When you’re not targeting specific people who are interested in your offers. You will probably spend more money on advertisements and receive little in return on investments.
Another Scenario:
Let’s imagine a local retail store. The store is flooded with window shoppers and the store looks like they are about to generate a lot of sales that day.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen because window shoppers are general shoppers who are just browsing around and not looking for anything specific.
Similar to your massive non targeted/low-quality traffic. They are online window shoppers who are there, but not interested in anything specific, so the chance of you making a sale is quite low.
Can You Make Money With Visitors in Massive Quantities?
You absolutely can make money with massive quantities of visitors. However, that only works if you are also targetting quality customers who are likely to buy from you.
There are many people earning massive amounts of money through a passive income method known as Google AdSense.
A massive quantity of traffic can be helpful if you are an information website that is NOT promoting products to earn commissions.
Earn Money With Quality and Quantity
By using proper keywords and content marketing, you can generate both quantity and quality traffic that is more likely to buy from you.
Content Marketing To Generate Traffic: You can target long-tail keywords with low competition. This will allow you to rank higher without having to compete with those who are well-established.
I’ve heard of people using long-tail keywords and generating a massive amount of traffic over time because the long-tail keyword became extremely popular.
However, you must have high-quality content to back it up! Otherwise, people will not want to stay on your website.
Pay-Per-Click (PAID): Unlike the content marketing method, you don’t have to find long-tail keywords with low competition. All you have to do is make sure the keywords used are relevant to what you are advertising.
Otherwise, you are going to be spending more money on advertisements for nothing. My personal favorite is Google AdWords, but there are other services available to you.
