Today, I was playing a game with my younger cousin on my smartphone that mirrors life events from going to college, choosing a career, raising a family, buying a house, and finally retiring. Interestingly enough, the game is called, “The Game Of Life“.
First, you must choose a path between going to college or starting a career. The obvious choice is to go to college because the earning potential increases exponentially.
However, being the rebel that I am. I wanted to do the complete opposite and see if I can achieve unique results.
After playing for an hour, I realized that my cousin who chose the college career always ended up with more money than I did.
Could it be the luck of his spins? or Is it true… to make lots of money, you must go to college?
The Game of Life Is Flawed
The Game of Life misguides with your pre-written beliefs. Similar to what your parents or teachers taught you when you were a child.
Working a regular job or going to school to find better-paying jobs with limited earning potential is not the way of life. Sure, this is only a game, but there’s an important lesson to be learned.
There Are More Than Two Paths In Life
In The Game of Life, you can only make 2 choices— Go to college or start a career.
The decision you make will predetermine your earning potentials for the remainder of the game (life). This is when I decided to ask my cousin, which career path he would choose and why.
His answer was… Go to college because of the higher-earning potentials…
That’s when I decided to ask him about starting a business. He was quite shocked because that never occurred to him because the Game of Life never exposed that path to him.
Here Are Some Choices You Can Make In Life
Choosing a Career
You can work regular 9 to 5 jobs with varying levels of pay. In most cases, you will be earning the required minimum wage which barely covers the cost of living.
However, if you choose to work as a tradesman, you can earn a decent living.— However, people in this area tend to trade time for money. How much is your time worth to you?
Going to College
You can go to college and earn a degree to land a better paying job while accumulating debt. My friends who chose this path are still struggling to land a stable job to this day.
There are many people with the same or higher degree than yourself, making the market for work highly competitive.— People in this area are still trading their time for money. The only difference is, you are trading your time for a little more money.
Starting a Business
Do you like the idea of being your own boss? Starting a business will allow you to work for yourself. The typical business model is the average bricks and mortar.
You open a physical storefront and you earn money by selling service(s) or product(s) to customers.— This is not easy because of how expensive it is to get started.
Imagine if you want to open a franchise like Mc Donald. It’s going to cost you millions of dollars before you even take into account the cost of an employee, upkeep, and more.
This is why most people stay as employees!
Starting an Online Business
Do you like the idea of being your own boss, running your own business, minus the expensive upfront cost? You don’t need hundreds of thousands of dollars to get started thanks to my recommended platform.
