For those who have been following my blog for over a year now, probably thinks that I have no life. If you ever started a blog of your own, then you should know exactly how I feel.
I am definitely thankful for what blogging has done for me, but it didn’t come without sacrifices. In order to consistently publish one blog post per day, I had to make changes in my life in which I was not very fond of at first.
Then again, there are pros and cons to anything in life. A job has its pros and cons too… you will get paid for the hours that you work, but you will be restricted by growth, time, and location.
In this article, I would like to share with you, my love and hate relationship with blogging. That way if you decide to start your own blog, you’ll know exactly what to expect. Without further ado, let’s get started!
My Love For Blogging
Freedom To Work From Anywhere
Recently, I went to New York City for a mini-vacation and during my stay. I was still making money online because blogging allows me to work from anywhere in the world as long as I have access to the internet.
I love being able to work and make money while traveling. It enables to me enjoy life to the fullest. Nobody wants to be stuck in an office while your kids are on summer break. I don’t have kids, but eventually, I would like to spend most of the time watching my kids grow up.
Unfortunately, for people who work a regular job, it’s difficult to find time to spend with family. You’re restricted by time and location. In order to make money, you’ll have to spend X amount of hours at work and you’ll have to be physically available at your job location.
Freedom To Do What I Love
I grew up in the internet era. I used to spend countless hours online playing a game called RuneScape. Nowadays, I don’t play that game anymore, but I still enjoy searching the web and watching videos on Netflix or YouTube.
From when I was playing RuneScape, I knew it was possible to make money online because people were creating private servers and charging people donations for virtual goods.
I never took the opportunity to try it myself because I didn’t know how to do it and people didn’t want to teach me. Fast forward 2017, I discovered making money online through blogging and affiliate marketing.
Because of my experience, I wanted to offer a resource for people to learn how to get started. Little by little, I grew to love typing and educating my readers. I had no idea that I loved typing this much.
Now with over 350+ blog post, my blog dedicates itself to teach others how to make money online. I am not your know it all guru because I am open to the fact that there’s so much more to learn.
Like anything in life, the more you do it, the better you become. Whenever I go out, I would play YouTube videos to learn marketing tips from Neil Patel. I believe you should be doing something to advance yourself whenever you’re doing unproductive activities.
If I didn’t start my blog, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do what I love. Yup, I love blogging and watching YouTube and Netflix!
An Opportunity To Be Your Own Boss
I am going to be honest and say that I hate working. I hate working not because of the actual work, but because I am building an empire for somebody else.
If my work helps someone making money. Why not work for myself and take in all the profit instead? Why get leveraged by someone else when you can leverage yourself. After all, you’re still doing the work right?
My Hate For Blogging
Blogging With Little To No Results
My first month of blogging was very exciting because I was exploring a new opportunity. However, as time goes by, it gets a bit discouraging. I think that’s why most people fail to make money from blogging because they quit too early.
Trust me, I have thought about quitting myself. Can you imagine writing over 100 blog posts and earning a penny on the dollar? Spending hundreds of hours creating content with little to no results.
Depending on your niche, a make money online blog will take longer to see results due to competition. It’s funny because I started a vape blog, but my friend told me to try the make money online niche instead because that’s what Wealthy Affiliate is about. Wealthy Affiliate is the platform that got me started.
In order to ensure that my blog consistently publishes 1 blog post per day. I use a method known as batching. Basically, I choose 2 days of the week to create content (Monday and Tuesday). During those days, I would create content (between 3 to 5 blog posts each day). Afterward, I would schedule it out for the month. This gives me a safety cushion in case something happens to me.
During my trip to New York City, I didn’t have to worry about my blog because I had blog posts in the queue ready to be published automatically.
Most of my blog posts are at least 1,000 words long. Some are shorter because I don’t feel like rambling on and on and just get straight to the point. On average, it takes me about 2 hours from start to finish per blog post. Can you imagine putting in all this effort just to see that you’re not really making money?
The fact to the matter is, it takes time to grow an online business and to make money online. First, you have to create high-quality contents, market your contents, get indexed on Google, build your website’s authority, and much more. It’s a process and on average, it takes about 2 years to start getting significant traffic from search engines.
After 2 to 3 years, with proper content marketing and relevant traffic. You will eventually earn enough to replace your regular job plus more! The timeframe will vary from person to person because someone who blogs once a month will see results slower than someone who blogs twice a week.
When you first get started, don’t ask yourself how much money you want to make? As yourself how committed you are to grow your online business? Like any business, it takes time to become profitable.
Spending Too Much Time On The Computer
At the time of this blog post, I wrote 3 other ones already. I told myself after the 3rd one, I would take a break and watch some television.
Well, the television is on, but I’m actually blogging instead of watching it. I can honestly say that I’m addicted to growing Smart Affiliate Hub. If I’m not tired, I would subconsciously turn on my laptop and start typing. Before you know it, a blog post is completed.
This has really affected my social life. Many of my friends are calling me, “Mr. MIA.” Sad huh? Hopefully, if you start a blog, you won’t become an addicted blogger like myself.
Don’t Give Up And Stay Persistence
I’m making money online, it’s not a lot, but enough to prove to myself that affiliate marketing and blogging work. I didn’t care about the results of other marketers because I don’t know if they’re telling lying! I wanted to know if it’s legit by trying it out myself. My results are what encourages me never give up and stay persistence.
I understand that If I want to make money from blogging and affiliate marketing. I’ll have to put in the work and overcome the obstacles that are ahead of me.
Giving up is not an option because I don’t want to work a regular 9 to 5 job. I don’t want to work until I’m 65 years old just to earn enough to retire. What the heck can I do at the age of 65? I’ll be too old to be able to enjoy myself…
Right now, I am planting the seeds (content) on my foundation (Smart Affiliate Hub). One day, I’ll be able to harvest! For the meantime, I’ll just finish this blog post and work on the next.
