Today I’ve decided to upgrade to the HP Omen 15 Gaming Laptop for my blog. My previous one is considered a super dinosaur in today’s standard. It would take over 5 minutes to boot up and another 3 minutes before I can open Google Chrome. It was frustrating and made my experience working from home miserable.
Producing content was a nightmare because doing simple research alone would take a very long time. Once you include Keyword Research and doing the typing, you might as well throw the laptop against the wall. In this article, I will talk about the laptop that I purchased and why I chose it.
Note: I bought the laptop with money earned from the blog(:
Choosing The Right Laptop
At first, I wanted to get a desktop, but I do sometimes work on my online business outside of my house. You might catch me at a local Starbucks mooching off of their WiFi.
Note: You’ll be surprised by how many internet marketers you can meet at your local Starbucks!
With that being said, I decided to stick with a laptop for portability. The only problem is which one should I buy? There are so many brands, specs, etc. I could’ve purchased a cheap laptop at Best Buy for under $500.00, but I didn’t. I decided to take things up a notch.
I ended up purchasing the HP OMEN by Hp 15.6″ Laptop – Intel Core i7 – 8GB Memory – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti – 1TB HDD + 128GB Solid State Drive. Price: $1,099.99 plus tax. Currently, it is on sale for $999.99 plus tax, so it’s a very good deal! You can find this very laptop at your local Best Buy (not an affiliate link).
What’s Good About The HP OMEN?
I’m not a tech person, so I will try my best to explain this to the best of my ability. First, let’s go over the features:
- Windows 10 operating system: Windows 10 brings back the familiar Start Menu from Windows 7. Keep in mind, I was still using Window Vista on my older laptop, but Windows 10 is not too difficult to figure out. As a matter of fact, I actually like how user-friendly it is.
- 15.6″ Full HD display: The display sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution with impressive graphics quality. For a laptop, it’s quite impressive and should do just fine if you use it for gaming or video streaming.
- 7th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ mobile processor: Can handle games, so simple tasks like internet research and blogging should be a piece of cake.
- 8GB system memory for advanced multitasking: This allows me to open up multiple browsers to do research and writing my content without lag.
- 1TB hard drive and 128GB solid-state drive (SSD) for a blend of storage space and speed: Instead of waiting for my laptop to boot up, it boots up faster than I can count 1-2-3.
- Cloud support: I believe this is an additional charge, but it is cloud support compatible, so you can access your files anywhere.
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics: This graphics card allows you to run some of the most popular games out there. The only problem is that you might have to lower the graphics for certain games. Again, for blogging and running my online business. It does a heck of a good job!
- Windows Mixed Reality Ultra Ready: I don’t think this laptop is full VR, but it is compatible with Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
- Built-in stereo speakers: It comes with DTS sound which creates a virtual surround sound to enhance your experience while gaming, watching movies, playing music, etc.
- Weighs 5.78 lbs. and measures 1″ thin: It’s still a very portable laptop, but let’s face it… it is a gaming laptop, so it will feel bigger and heavier than your average laptop.
- Bluetooth 4.2 interface syncs with compatible devices: To tell you the truth, I haven’t tried the Bluetooth function yet, but it should allow you to connect to your wireless devices such as headphones.
- 1 USB Type-C port: Allows you to connect to the latest high-speed devices.
- 3 SuperSpeed 10Gbs USB 3.1 ports: Allows you to large files fast!
- HDMI output expands your viewing options: I tried connecting this laptop to my UDTV and it works like a charm! This is definitely one of my favorite features because it allows me to create presentations without a projector.
- Built-in media reader for simple photo transfer: This laptop supports SD memory cards.
- Next-generation wireless connectivity: I have yet to have a wireless drop on this laptop. It does a spectacular job at keeping you connected.
- Built-in HD webcam with two microphones: I don’t use this, so I don’t care about it haha!
- Additional ports: Again, don’t use this because the speakers built in is very good!
Well, that took care of the boring stuff. Sorry, I had you go through this, but it’s really how I feel about the features that come with this gaming laptop.
Why I Chose A Gaming Laptop
Reason #1. Performance and Longevity
Well, to tell you the truth, I don’t really play video games. Don’t worry, I’m not crazy! I have a reason for spending the extra money on a laptop that I don’t really need.
You see, I intend to use this laptop for a very long time and the lightning speed of a gaming laptop enhances my online experience and allows me to be more productive.
When you’re using a slow computer, everything seems more challenging and more importantly frustrating. Can you imagine typing and waiting a few seconds for the text to actually appear on your screen? That’s exactly what I had to endure with my previous dinosaur laptop.
Reason #2. To Be More Invested Into My Online Business
One of the biggest reasons why people fail to make money online is because they feel like an online business is easy in, easy out. It doesn’t cost lots of money to start, so it’s okay to just give up.
Since I don’t play video games, buying a gaming laptop and not working on my online business is like buying a bra when I’m a man… why the heck do I need it? I’m not a freak…
In fact, I am more focused now because I purchased something expensive for my online business. My mind is telling me… okay Eric, you’ve spent a good amount of money, now it’s time to make it back!
In Conclusion
I don’t regret spending the extra money because this gaming laptop has changed how efficient I am when it comes to operating my online business. It’s definitely night and day compared to your average laptop.
If you are in the market for a new laptop to run your online business.
Do consider a gaming one because the performance and longevity make up for the price.
Instead of buying a new laptop every couple of years, why not buy one that lasts much longer and performs much better?
Sure you can get 3 regular laptops for the price of 1 gaming laptop, but imagine how much faster it is! Also, if you maintain your laptop, it might outlast 3 regular laptops in its lifetime. If you are interested in buying this laptop, you can find it by clicking here (not an affiliate link).
