Growing up in America, we’ve been told throughout our lives to work hard and to live the American dream. However, nobody ever told me what it’s like to live the American dream.
In this article, I will go over what the American dream is and why you shouldn’t strive to live it. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Quick Note:
Regardless of your status, even if you’re not an American. The philosophy behind the American dream applies to everyone in the world.
What Is The American Dream?
The American dream is an idea that every United States citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.
In other words, assuming everything goes accordingly. You can slowly work your way up the corporate ladder and eventually land yourself a job in the corner office with the nice view.
Let’s Snap Back To Reality
However, let’s be real… the majority of us are not climbing our way up the corporate ladder. As a matter of fact, some of us are quite dissatisfied with our jobs.
Are you working long hours at a job that you hate just so you can make ends meet? Are you working long hours at a job you hate just so you can make payments for that brand new car of yours?
Well, guess what… you’re working a job that you hate to purchase a car to take you to the job that you hate…
Let’s not forget the struggle to schedule around your super busy lives. Your personal and social life is also constrained by your job.
If You Live The American Dream
Let’s say the world is perfect and all of the ducks line up in a straight line. You’re working a corporate job and was promoted to a management position for your hard work, determination, and initiative.
You’re also living in a very nice home with an expensive sports car and the latest technology to keep you and your family entertained. Sounds great right? That my friend is the American dream.
However, because you have to trade hours for dollars in order to maintain the American dream. You’ll be working your life away for years until you can retire with your 401k or pension. Right after retirement, you’ll be able to live your life and travel anywhere in the world if that’s what you want.
Here’s the catch, by then you’ll be both physically and mentally exhausted from the years of hard work that you’ve accumulated to get to where you are.
Just think about it, right now vacation sounds fun because you’re able to move around easily. You can pretty much eat anything you want without much problem.
Now by the time you’re old enough to retire. Do you think you’ll have as much fun traveling the world when your body is aching and you’re tired all the time?
Do you see yourself following this path of life? Most people are except the majority of the people will not climb the corporate ladders to a management position.
Forget About The American Dream. You Need To Live Your Dream.
If you look at the American dream, it’s all about work, work, and work. Your personal life means little to nothing until after retirement. Is that really the lifestyle that you want to live?
It’s certainly not my cup of tea and that’s why I chose to work online. The keyword is to WORK online.
I wanted to emphasize that because lots of aspiring entrepreneurs believe that making money online requires zero work. It’s completely false, but I do understand where they are coming from.
There are many deceptive sales pages out there made by greedy marketers. Promising that if you buy their product, money will start raining down on you without working for it. If it sounds too good to be true… it usually is.
So how is this any different compared to the American dream? You still have to work…
The key difference between working online and work based on the American dream is that you’re working smarter, not harder. You don’t have to wake up early in the morning to drive to work.
You also don’t have a boss breathing down your neck. Working online gives you the flexibility to make your personal and social life a priority over work.
Because I make money online, I am able to do the following:
- Wake up whenever I want (I tend to wake up earlier than when I used to work a regular job).
- Spend time with my family whenever I want and wherever I want.
- I can travel more often because I make money on the internet.
Unlike the American dream where you’ll be able to live the life, you want to live after retirement. Working online, allows you to live the life you want to live in the process.
