The nice thing about running your business on YouTube is the cost. It’s absolutely free to become a YouTuber and make a name for you and your business.
Unfortunately, free does come with a price. YouTube can shut you down if they want to with a click of a button. And that’s how easy it is to have your online business taken away from you.
It’s literally like taking candy from a baby. You’ll have no control over it when it happens.
But what’s scary is not the fact that YouTube can shut you down at any time. It’s when countries are blocking access to YouTube itself.
According to CNET.com, Pakistan’s telecommunications company managed to take YouTube offline for two hours after receiving a censorship order.
From my understanding, the attempt was just to block access to YouTube within the country of Pakistan. But due to some technical reasons, this affected a third of the worlds internet population.
Now YouTube being such a big company, you should have no concern with it going down indefinitely. But as history once shown us, even the most popular companies can become obsolete once something better takes its place.
If your entire business is structured around YouTube. What would it do for you and your business if YouTube were to go away tomorrow?
The Same Was Said About Those Who Came Before YouTube
I remember not too long ago, I was watching videos on DailyMotion, Vimeo, and Google Video. To this day, most of those platforms are still around, but they are nowhere near as popular as YouTube.
With the way YouTube is trending, I don’t foresee any upcoming powerhouses to take over any time soon. But we do live in the world of technology and startups are taking advantage of this golden era.
So I’m not surprised if the day YouTube becomes obsolete is coming sooner than expected.
Nobody Is Safe If YouTube Goes Down
For bloggers who embed YouTube videos in their blog, those would become instantly broken. And for some YouTubers, they may even lose their entire audience base with no way of reaching out to them.
With so many YouTubers out there, unless you follow them extremely close such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. You’re probably not going to be able to find them or know where they’ll be heading next.
The point I’m trying to make here is that you should never build your online business on something that you have no control over. It’s like renting a sports car and ordering all the nice fancy parts to upgrade it.
Build A Website To Secure Your Business Foundation
While it is less expensive to start an online business on YouTube without a website. It’s certainly not recommended because it can all go away if Thanos from Avengers Infinity War or End Game decides to snap his finger.
Like Social Media, YouTube should be a channeling source that directs traffic back to your website. There you can build your email list and be able to build your business without the fear of someone shutting you down (well as long as you don’t do anything illegal).
Now I understand that starting a YouTube channel is less technical. Simply pull your smartphone, record, and upload. Starting a website or a blog is quite easy with proper guidance.
That’s why I offer a free WordPress installation service for all of my readers. Yes, it will cost you money for web hosting and your domain name.
But I will take care of all the technical parts of starting a blog so you can start on the most important part; blogging and marketing your content.
Or, if you’re not sure if starting a website, building a blog, making money online is the right career path for you. I recommend checking out my risk-free recommendation called Wealthy Affiliate.
There you can build your first 2 websites with step-by-step tutorial (free-of-charge). The only drawback is you don’t get your own domain name if you decide to go the free route. But it’s a great test drive to see if you’re fit to make money online.
