Welcome to 2019 and with that being said, I’d like to know what gadgets you have all purchased. The biggest advantage of blogging and making money online is mobility. You can basically work from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.
Besides having access to the internet, the device you use is also very important. Whether I am hanging out at Starbucks or on the road for vacation, I always have 2 devices with me. Both enable me to blog on-the-go. I’m mostly on the run, so that’s why I don’t have a desktop at home.
Now I know that not everyone has the luxury to have multiple devices to work with. So in this article, I will go over devices that you can use depending on your budget and lifestyle. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Smartphone (Most People Should Have This)
If you have access to the internet, then you probably have a smartphone. This is the most convenient way to blog, but not the easiest in my opinion. I’m not a big texter, but I find it difficult to type with the little buttons available on a phone.
However, it shouldn’t stop you from reading your emails, answering comments, and taking pictures for your blog posts. In fact, you can find the official WordPress application on both iOS and Android platform.
Note: The smartphone is a great tool to have when it comes to blogging, but it shouldn’t be your primary source.
Tablet (Apple or Android)
Smartphones are small, but tablets are much bigger than the average smartphone. Personally, I use the iPad for blogging, taking pictures, and everything else that revolves around running my blog.
Again, subject to opinion, I prefer to pair a wireless keyboard for my iPad. It’s much easier to type compared to using the touchscreen keyboard. Most tablets are quite affordable especially since the release of the latest iPad.
It is extremely close to using a laptop except, you lose the convenience of having a mouse. Maybe I’m just too used to using a mouse! It takes me quite long to emulate the same tasks when clicking, holding, and dragging.
A Laptop Alternative
Google Chromebook is a great alternative to a laptop. The price starts as low as $200.00 which is less than some tablets in the market. It also comes with access to the suite of Chrome OS applications as well as the ability to run Android applications.
You can pretty much use the Google Chromebook like a regular computer. Unfortunately, the performance aspect of the system is quite poor. If you want to multi-task, you should look into getting an affordable laptop instead.
An Affordable Laptop
Using a laptop is arguably the best way to blog. Personally, I have the HP Omen gaming laptop from BestBuy. I don’t play games on it, but I prefer to have a fast system.
If you’re on a budget, I recommend checking out BestBuy. They often display advertisements on bundle deals mostly for students who need a budget laptop.
These are still more expensive compared to the Google Chromebook, but the specs are usually better. Which means you can still do minimal multi-tasks.
If you’re mostly outdoors, I highly recommend getting yourself an affordable laptop. One that fits your budget because it will make your blogging experience far easier compared to a tablet or a smartphone.
Get A Desktop Computer
Desktops are better machines compared to laptops. Because of how it’s designed, desktop computers tend to last longer. So if you’re mostly at home anyway, there’s no reason to get a laptop. You can get similar specs if not better for around the same price as a laptop.
For me, I’m usually outdoors, so having a laptop is crucial. However, if you batch your work, you can just use the timestamp feature on WordPress to schedule your blog posts. Then you can just use your smartphone to respond to comments, take pictures, and answer emails.
Which device do you prefer to use when blogging? Do you blog from home or do you blog on-the-go?
