Check out what my at-home computer set up looks like! I decided to upgrade my computer set up to improve my productivity.
Reinvesting back into your business is a big part of scaling. For some, it’s replacing furniture, lighting, etc. For others like myself, buying a brand new computer for business operation is essential.
Growing up in the 90s, I was accustomed to using a computer (especially for gaming).
Little did I know, I would be using a computer to make a living. For the last 10 years, I have transitioned from a regular desktop to a gaming laptop (HP OMEN 15).
This allowed me to travel the world while operating Smart Affiliate Hub.
But due to COVID-19, I am now spending way more time at home. This made me realize that a laptop is not adequate.
By the way, I am not a computer expert! The content in this article is based solely on my opinion after personal use.
Getting A Gaming Desktop
So in March of 2020, I decided to purchase a custom gaming desktop by LyteTechnology. By the way, if you build your own gaming computer, you can get better components than if you were to buy one that’s custom-built.
Note: My cable management is terrible! I will work on it some time soon!
I didn’t build my own because I just don’t have the time nor patience. The computer took a while to ship, but it’s understandable since we are in a pandemic.
So far, I am pleased with my purchase. The computer is quiet and extremely responsive.
LyteTechnology offers a wide range of custom builts going for as low as $399.00 and as high as $1,249.00. So if you are budget cautious, LyteTechnology is the place to go for a custom-built computer.
The reason behind a gaming computer rather than a traditional computer is durability. Since gaming computers are made for games.
They tend to last longer since they are able to last through harsh uses. And since I don’t really play video games, the computer should theoretically function smoothly for a very long time.
Getting A Mechanical Keyboard
For the keyboard, I opted for the Razer Huntsman Elite. For office use, I don’t recommend using this keyboard since it’s a little on the noisy side.
Since majority of your input is through a keyboard, it is wise to invest in one that fits you!
However, for those who work from home and prefer the mechanical feel. The Razer Huntsman Elite will NOT disappoint.
It uses optical switches which provide a very solid feel and extremely responsive. Previously, I used a regular stock keyboard and the feel of the Razer Huntsman Elite in comparison is night and day.
The MSRP on the keyboard is $199.99. You can usually find deals on Amazon for slightly less! Currently, it is listed at $176.95 on Amazon.
By the way, there’s no such thing as a universal fit for Keyboards. Do take online reviews with a light grain of salt. If your local hardware store offers mechanical keyboards, you should go there and try it out first.
Just because I like the Razer Huntsman Elite, doesn’t mean you’ll like it.
Getting A Gaming Mouse
Like your keyboard, your mouse is also regularly used. However, I don’t think it is nearly as important as the keyboard. Personally, I’d do just fine with a $20.00 wireless mouse by Logitech.
I opted for the Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed Wireless because it was cheap on Amazon. For only around $50.00, it’s one heck of a deal.
If you are into RGB, I recommend checking out the Razer Basilisk Ultimate HyperSpeed. But it does cost significantly more.
Like the Razer Huntsman Elite, I am impressed with the craftsmanship of their mouse. It’s extremely responsive to 16K DPI optical sensors.
Again, do take product reviews on a computer mouse with a light grain of salt! It’s not one size fits all.
Getting A Gaming Mouse Pad
In the background of some of the images, you might also notice a large mouse pad with glowing lights on the edges.
For that I opted for the Blade Hawks RGB Gaming Mouse Pad. Why? It’s cheap and looks great! I used to have a small mouse pad and that really restricted my mouse movements.
When I first received this gaming mouse pad, I realized that it wasn’t completely flat. But after bending the edges lightly, it is now as flat as it can be.
Getting A Gaming Monitor
For the monitor, I opted for the LG UltraGear 27″ Class FHD IPS G-Sync Compatible Gaming Monitor. I purchased it at my local Costco after seeing it for a month.
I finally decided it was time to replace my old piece of junk and upgrade. Let’s just say I am extremely happy with the purchase.
I do a lot of multitasking on my computer. Having a larger monitor definitely makes my work a whole lot easier.
All in all, I spent roughly $1,280.00 to complete my new computer setup. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a lot of money compared to many people.
However, it’s enough for what I’m doing. There’s no need to spend a fortune unless you’re a gaming streamer or a YouTuber for video editing.
Reinvesting back into your business costs money, but it can help improve productivity and that will help increase your revenue.
As an affiliate marketer, I spend a lot of time behind the computer. So this was very much needed for me.
By the way, this can also be used as a tax write-off if you also operate an online business. So don’t be afraid of spending money and reinvesting. The money will come back plus more.
I am always looking to improve, so please let me know what your computer setup looks like!
Have a wonderful day!
