There are many signals that search engines look for when determining the rankings of a webpage. One of which is known as Meta Tags.
Unfortunately, due to the abuse of certain black hat method users. Google no longer considers Meta Tags as a ranking factor.
But that doesn’t mean Meta Tags are no longer important. In fact, it still plays a major role in helping you in search engine optimization.
Without further ado, let’s go over in this short article: Are Meta Tags Important For SEO?
What Are Meta Tags?
In short, meta tags are descriptions of your content for search engines. This lets your visitors know what your page is about before they click on it.
Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engines also use your meta tags to determine what your website is about. This gives them the information needed to display it to relevant users.
Let’s break down meta tags piece by piece:
The Title: This title text that gets displayed on search engine listings. It’s also important that your title tag is not only relevant but also captivating.
The Permalink: This is done automatically on WordPress. Essentially, this is the article URL that contains your title. For example, the title of how to lose weight fast would look like this: https://fakewebsite.com/how-to-lose-weight-fast (The permalink can be changed without affecting your title tag).
The Description: This is a short summary of what your article is about. The description will also be displayed in the search results.
Keyword Tags: This is optional, but should not be taken lightly. This is where you input keywords that you would like to rank for.
Now that we know what a meta tag is a piece by piece, let’s take a look at a real example:
Install A SEO Plugin
Preparation is the key here. This is why I recommend starting off with a good platform because it makes your life a lot easier in the long run.
If you are using WordPress to build your website, there is a plugin called All in One SEO that you can install and activate.
When you write new content, this will allow WordPress to automatically generate your permalink saving you one whole step.
All in One SEO will also allow WordPress to automatically generate your description, so you don’t have to deal with it after publishing each post or page.
This will save you a lot of time and ensures your content is SEO ready.
The All in One SEO doesn’t automatically fill in the keywords for you, but there’s a reason behind it.
It is not necessary because the title, permalink, and description are enough to allow the search engines to figure out what to rank your contents for.
But of course, it doesn’t hurt to fill it in on your own!
The search engines are very sophisticated when it comes to finding relevance to your content, so don’t worry and let the All in One SEO do most of the work for you.

Other Factors To Help Move Up In Search Engine Ranking
Domain Age and Content Authority: It’s no surprise that the search engines favor older websites over newer ones.
The truth is, most new websites perish without warning.
In fact, most online business owners give up too soon because of slower results.
Unlike Mc Donalds, you can’t expect to make a lot of money in the beginning because you haven’t developed authority. You can learn more about website authority by clicking here.
Targeting Long Tail Keywords with Low Competition: There are many established websites on the internet using most of the keywords and if you’re not targeting ones with less competition, you will have a hard time making it to the top pages of the search engines.
