Are You Getting Traffic, But Not Making Money?

A website’s traffic is essential. Without traffic, you’ll have no one to make money from. However, having lots of traffic does not always equate to making money.

When you break it down, it’s actually quite simple. First, you”ll need traffic and you”ll also need conversion in order to make money. So getting traffic is just one half of the formulas to success.

What you’ll also need to fulfill the recipe of making money is conversion. Being able to convert your traffic into paying customers is the key here.

Are you getting traffic, but not making money? In this article, I will break down a few types of website traffic that you may be getting. Traffic is great, but not all of them will help make you money online.

The Different Type of Traffic That You May Be Getting

#1. Organic Traffic:

This is one of the most sought-after types of traffic when it comes to an online business. Organic traffic is people who found your website through Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.

They are highly targeted because the only reason why they stumbled upon your website is that they were searching for something that is relevant to your article.

Seriously, there’s nothing more relevant than people searching for what you’re offering.

#2. Spam or Junk Traffic:

This type of traffic is nothing but a number. They are worth absolutely nothing and will usually leave spam links on your articles. The reason why they leave spam links on your articles is because they are hoping to gain visitors from your website.

This can happen when you purchase traffic from websites that promise to get you lots of page views for a small cost.

Just because you’re seeing an increase in visitor count, it means absolutely nothing because you will not see an increase in your website revenue.

#3. Social Traffic:

You get social traffic when you get visitors from popular social networks such as Google+, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Like other forms of traffic, relevancy is the determining factor to your success.

In order to see success with social traffic, you want to make sure your social media pages are relevant to your niche only. You wouldn’t want to use it as a personal account; you can make another one for that purpose.

In order to maximize exposure, most social media platforms allow you to use hashtags to target the right audience.

#4. Direct Traffic or Referral Traffic:

There are 2 sides to a coin for this type of traffic. It’s a great form of traffic, but at the same time, it’s not so great. Allow me to explain!

This is the type of traffic from an outside source other than the search engines. For example, posting links on social media, sending emails, or sending text messages.

I’ve sent links to my friends through text message, social media, and email. None of them thus far have taken action. That’s because they are part of my network, but have no interest in learning how to make money online.

Even though they looked at my website and increased the number of visitors. It does absolutely nothing for me in terms of making money.

However, if the direct or referral traffic is coming from your subscribers via an email list. That can change everything because they are people who are highly interested in what you have to offer.

Otherwise, they wouldn’t have subscribed in the first place. Interested in creating an email list? Click here to learn how!

#5. Paid Traffic:

Whenever you have to pay to get visitors, it is considered paid traffic. You can get this form of traffic from reliable sources such as Google AdWords, Bing Ads, and Facebook Ads which also links to Instagram Ads.

In contrast to reliable sources, you can also purchase traffic through less reputable sources. Usually, they offer X amount of visitors for X amount of money.

These are the types of visits that mean absolutely nothing. They are mass generated, probably bots, and will not have any interest in what you have to offer.

There is also something called Solo Ads, in which you pay X amount of money for someone else to send emails on your behalf to their already established email list.— If you want to be successful, you should create your own list instead. Click here to learn how!

My Final Thoughts

Traffic is crucial to a website, but conversion is also required if you want to make money online. Most people get the misconception to a website’s success by only paying attention to traffic.

Theoretically speaking, more traffic = more money, but that’s only true if you’re actually converting your traffic into paying customers.

I’d rather have 1000 daily visitors and 10 of them that are taking action rather than having 10,000 daily visitors but only 1 of them is taking action.

My best word of advice is to identify where your traffic is coming from. This will give you an idea why you’re getting traffic, but not converting. You can use a free tool such as Google Analytics to find out where your traffic is coming from.

Or you can use more experienced tools such as SEMrush to analyze your traffic, analyze your competitors, and much more.
